Steve love the image with the candles, it would be hard to say if moving to the left would have helped as you would have lost some of the great stonework on the right hand side. Something like this is one of those I think I will shoot here first, no maybe here first, no maybe here first, oh what the heck I just shoot all of them.

Steve: that is an interesting as you call it a viaduct, as we all see the same thing diferently, I would have setup dead centre of it, say about 3 feet high. Using f16 to increase the depth of field an ISO of 100, as f8 to f16 is 2 stops and 200 to 100 is a single it would be about 8 seconds, but I would have added at least 2 seconds more to make sure that I got the details in the shadow.

Cheers Allan; I bought that dslr after being recommended a point and shoot by a local dealer, who didn't quite grasp that, doing photography at school mean't using a Hasselblad and lights and darkroom and chemicals.
Anyway; I was a bit new to it and learning that it is different to film, got too interested in HDR and did it even if it wasn't necessary.
This place at 4:30am is unnerving, you heard of Count Dracula; well there is a book a thousand years old predating Dracula recording instances of Vampire activity right here.
If somebody steps on the viaduct half a mile away, it shakes where I am, and I tried to be more central but cyclists kept trying to crash into me. I didn't expect that at 0430.
I haven't read this article I've referenced; but it illustrates the viaduct, got nice pics in it. I can remember when I was a kid, the park was always full of couples, ladies in long dresses, on Sundays. Not like now

Steve, another wonderful picture!
Thanks Bruce
Another redo from 2009
1 second f8 @200iso 28mm prime on a Canon 10D; I think this is Robinson and I don't know why but I found myself talking to herI think because she is so realistic, when you are there it is very dark and eerie although the exposure suggests otherwise.
Looking at the exposures; the candles has a similar exposure to this but looks a lot brighter.

Steve with this one there is really only two colours, balck and white, and a darn good job you did with it also. If I found myseld taking to her it would have been in a whisper as not wanting to wake her. You certainly have a lot greater selection of places to shoot then out here in the hinterlands.

Thanks Allan; I can't get over how bright it is relative to the background. All the windows were covered up and I think there was one spotlight in the distance.
This is another image I took in June of this year at Healey Falls, it is not a big powerfull falls, but is is rather large with lots of ledges some deep, some shallow, also high and short so a good mixture with lots and lots of potential shots. This one is similar to the previous one as in same place and day however I wanted a rich deep black, I may have gone a little overboard but I do not think so. I used the same image twice as two layers, both opened as smart objects, one with high clarity and the other with negative clarity, both had Nik silver pro 2 applied, a mask applied to the negative clarity layer than it was brushed into the other layer, then those layers were merged together then 3 adjustment layer added brightness/constract, levels, and curves.
I think it came out just fine.

Allan
Thinking of printing this one out, what do you think?

An interesting addition to somebodies wall Allan. Very abstract and interesting how you plan everything![]()
Hi Folks,
Had a day of fog yesterday and noticed a small ship in at the shipping quay, so decided to try and take a photograph in the early morning dark. Up long before dawn, however the fog had lifted so made a shot without the fog. Had problems with the lights especially the spot on the building.
Your thoughts and comments would be most appreciated, Best Wishes, Pat.
I love the picture -- but I grew up by the sea. I'll leave to others any comments about what or if anything should be done with the light on building.
Pat I like the image very much, the low angle is very interesting. It is had to get good images with long exposures either outdoors or inside it takes work and a lot of practice. When most of the easy shots have been taken by others who are now asleep in their beds some of us are just setting up to shoot, I think shooting things like this and others help us to be better photographers as we have to work for our images. I also think that when out with others and the day starts to go down the drain, we have a better idea of how to work around the conditions and still keep shooting when other have done in for coffee.

I think it is an absolutely superb shot Pat; you got the lights just right and the one aimed directly down the lens was always going to be hard. Superb![]()
Thank you, Bruce, Allan and Steve for your comments, I was afraid the light on the building would create to much of a distraction,
Best Wishes, Pat.
Steve: that looks just great, I really like the grey in the fore ground and in the sky. So often the sky gets that reddish orange glow to it. Once my eyes can move from the middle of the image the lights under the bridge draw my eyes and I enjoy searching for the boats in the river, you also want them brighter but then that would take away from the buildings. The trip to London was worth it, just for this shot.
We have a full moon coming up, I am going to try to shoot the falls about an hour from here by moonlight, I may try on Thursday or Friday night, so would not have anything until at least Sunday morning.
Again the trip was worth it.
Cheers:
Allan
Cheers Allan; I quite like it with all its confusing bits. Took an hour and lots of photographs and learning from them, and even letting some passers by to look through the viewfinder, including one nice chap who stayed to talk and was interested in CiC.![]()
