Camera ID in exif data?
My Nikon D5000, with two lenses and various accessories, was recently stolen. This brought to mind a discussion on the web about someone in similar curcumstances who was able to identify his stolen camera from photos posted on the web. If I remember correctly, the Exif data contained the camera´s serial number (although not normally displayed) and the owner used a web service which trawled the net for exif data of photos posted online. Does this ring a bell with someone?

EXIF does display Nikon serial numbers. However EXIF data might be erased from images that are posted, as many photo editing programs remove them when saving images. They are present only in jpeg images or RAW files.
