Well done on getting the image posted up, Bob. Getting the first one up is always the hardest!
I like the muted tones caused by the light.
In terms of possible improvement, the thing that struck me immediately was the fact that your grandson is smack-bang in the middle of the frame. I think you could make two major improvements in on simple step - crop a chunk off the left hand side to a) get rid of that thing up near teh top right hand corner (ir is really distracting) and, b) move your grandson to about the left hand vertical 'third' so that there is less space behind him than there is in front of him. That means he is looking into the frame.
It is a lovely capture and I think it's worth doing a little more work on it to improve it.
Thanks John, never thought of B&W. He is looking at raindrops, falling from a drain.
Donald, I am a little overwhelmed by my editing but will attempt your suggestions, thank you.
I personally don't think you went too far. This looks good and brought in the suggestions that were made.
Nope, not in my opinion.
With an image like this (or any other) there are no 'rights' or 'wrongs'. There are guidelines and concepts (such as the rule-of-thirds) that are very valuable and helpful. But at the end of the day the most important judgement and decision is - 'What feels right to me?'
Welcome Bob. This is a great picture. I love the intensity of the face, and the softness of the overall colours. He is like an illustration in an old hand drawn childrens book! Can wait to see some more.
Thanks to everyone for suggestions and encouragement.
Louise has a good statement there… He does look like a character from a children's book with how his outfit is put together! He looks like a real CHARACTER!
Is the redness on his hands due to the reflections from the red bricks? Unless hes just cold! Its a nice image that Im sure will be cherished.
Mike, the redness on his hands happened during post processing ( I honestly can't remember what I did ). I didn't want to mess around with it any more so I left it as is; so much to learn and yes, he is a real character
