Getting to the end of the year and I am about half way done with this project. Here is this mornings sunrise. I took a few different pictures and then I used this one in a faux-HDR.

Thanks Geoff. It was a really impressive morning. I had to fake the HDR because I couldn't find the exposure bracket function on my camera, but it turned out pretty good.

With it really cold outside and my getting flash triggers, I have moved into shooting portraits with off camera flash. Here is one from this week. The catchlights just aren't coming out right.

This was shot with a Canon T3i, 28-135mm at 50mm, manual mode, f5.6, 1/60, 400. Sunpak speedlite bounced off a reflector camera right, reflector camera left to aid in fill light. The light was at 1/4 or 1/8 power.

One for the studio experts really, but if you are shooting flash into reflectors I would have thought that would give a soft general light. Which may be why you aren't getting stronger catchlights.

Possibly some direct lighting would be needed?

You are getting a good shadow free light though; without the few hotspots that were there in Week 23.

Thanks Geoff. I am getting some help on how to get it better. I have some that I took tonight that are even better according to a friend. I'm getting there. I was in a rut for a few weeks but since getting the wireless triggers, I've been shooting about every day.

Got a light stand and umbrella holder and a new reflector today. Having the right gear is a big help. What do you think?

For me, she is possibly putting a little too much effort into posing and being at 'eye to eye level' is making this more obvious.

However, with regard to the main item, you now have good highlights with some soft shadows to make the scene look natural.

But some of our members who specialise in portraits may make a few other suggestions.

So this shot may be worth posting again in the Portrait forum.

Thanks Geoff. I can reshoot this just about any time. This was shot in portrait, I had the camera on a tripod and remoted it while I was holding the reflector. I will continue to work on these as I am really enjoying doing portraits and trying to control the lighting. I feel that it has put that element into my work that makes the photos not just pictures or snapshots.

Not sure what week it is. I've fallin' off the wagon but with spring fast approaching, I got back out in nature this weekend and found this interesting skull.
