Lucky Shot....Hover Fly
Hi Folks,
This fellow landed along side me while I was out and about with the camera and dodging the rain.
C&C always most welcome, Best Wishes, Pat

Re: Lucky Shot....Hover Fly
It is on a buttercup - which is a challenge in itself! So easy to get them over exposed; and exposing for them can make everything else dark.
There are clear longitudinal paler marks on the thorax so my first thought is, could it be an Episyrphus balteatus male but from that angle we can't see the secondary faint black abdominal lines. Certainly Syrphini family.
The shot works well for me.

A lucky shot maybe but beautifully executed. I would have had all the problems Geoff mentioned.

It's a very lovely image, Pat, and well executed. My only suggestion is that it seems slightly unbalanced to me; I would try cropping off just a bit from the right side to see how that works. But that's only a minor issue. And oh, if you could post a larger version, it would have more impact.
