Tutsan - not apples

In a UK hedge, yesterday.



I thought the seed capsules looked like little apples.

Actually called Tutsan (Hypericum androseaemum).

Very slight edit to red channel as suggested by Steve



Sigma 180 macro lens and flash on tripod. 1/250 F14.

Ideally, I should have changed to a smaller more general lens as I had to back off a bit to get everything in focus. But this was just a quick shot in between insects.

Nice image, you have captured this with the skill that you bring to your insects. I now know there is a plant/fruit called a Tutsan. I like the color and detail, also that it appears to show different stages of development of the fruit. Well done Geoff.

Nice colorful image geoff. Your colors will pop a bit more if you get rid of the red cast. (add a little cyan)


Curves tool---red channel---point in middle of the line and pull it to bottom right corner---adjust opacity to liking.

Beautifully composed image and the lighting is gorgeous - it generates an almost 3D effect.

I bow to Steve's knowledge in terms of technical adjustment (anything he has told me in the past about any colour image I've posted, has been right on the mark)

Thanks for the comments. This is a wild form of the garden Hypericum.

I will check the original raw image to look at the colours but without any true white it is always difficult to be certain. I was more concerned about getting the blue yellow balance right. In reality, the leaves are a darkish dirty green and using flash had made them a little on the yellow side.

ps Slight red edit image now posted. Any more adjustment is going too far to the blue.
