Nice shots and a very interesting bird Dave. Looks like some sort of vulture. Whenever I see something like this or look in the mirror I'm convinced God has a sense of humor.

I love the way the bird is looking into the camera. He's probably thinking you should have bought a Canon. However that is far from apparent the image quality is excellent and the close crop works well in the first image. One thing does worry me. The crown of my head is starting to look like his

I know what you mean, but I find if I stay out of the sun, or wear a hat, it doesn't get so red Shame I didn't think of that last Saturday - it is still itching!


Thanks for the kind words (everyone). I'm pretty pleased with the IQ.
These are both the 'portrait' middle thirds of landscape shots too, if you know what I mean.

I have so many good shots of these birds, I dare not post them all here , I really would bore most of you to tears. I think I'll have to start "breed specific" galleries for each type in PBase to keep them all together. Thanks to Hogan, I stand a fighting chance of identifying them.


The display at this place lasts about 40 minutes and has at least a dozen different birds, with several of each type, and it's on at 12:00 and 16:00 daily. They repeat each thing several times, so you can anticipate the action. If you're serious about photographing birds of prey, it's almost worth flying there (Tenerife, I mean) to visit it. Sorry, I can't stop raving about it

Mind you, they are wild birds - after I got back, I did read an internet horror story about a couple of women that got set upon by a vulture. My experience (although I am not saying it applied to them though), is that I was amazed how many people couldn't/wouldn't do as they were told and stay seated and not eat during the display (for obvious reasons).

I'm glad you did Hogan, because I was going to ask otherwise.
I had a feeling it was a vulture, but when I looked at pictures of all the different types on that other link you gave me, I couldn't see any with a head this colourful.
