Rob I'm with Colin on this one It's your photo I only had a quick play with it.
Also this may sound strange but I think the two most important pieces of equipment in a photographers kit are the tripod and grey card. Any time I'm asked what equipment to get next that is always my reply.
As for post processing any of the most common softwares will do photoshop/paintshop pro/gimp I have seen good work produced from all of the above.

Re Colin's comment (above). I went with GIMP when I started (just a thing about what it is and what they're trying to do - and you can make a donation for downloading it). But as Colin indicates, trying to get good tuition was the big challenge.
The GIMP users on here were really helpful. The place I found that really took my learning onto a new level was http://meetthegimp.org/.
Rolf Steinort does a weekly podcast. It's been running for exactly 2 years and he's up to podcast #115. And, of course, if you download the podcast, you can always go back to it for a refresher when you've forgotten how to do something. The problem I encountered was trying to learn everything at once and not cementing learning on one subject/area/action. Now getting more disciplined.
HI All
Thanks for all your input and hard work. I have a tripod so maybe will get one off those grad filters. I have tried using gimp but as you say its hard on two levels. All the books, mags in their lessons start with the sentence ( Open pic in photoshop). First as a beginer I have to learn a new skill but thats only the first part. You have to tranlate what it says about ps and try and work out what to do in Gimp and this is without knowing how to use ethier. So my pics get left untouched.
So the camera I bougth ends up getting put on (Auto maybe landscape jpeg) and gets used as a point and shoot a bit sad really. Thats how come I've ended up here so I can learn and I have also booked on an evening class course.
Now off to have a look at the link about Gimp. But will price up PS
thanks again

If you do want to think about the GIMP, then there is no logical order in which to take the tutorials for beginning learning purposes (going 1, 2, 3, 4, etc is not the most helpful). Rolf says that he didn't go about doing it in this way. His advice for the beginner is to take them in the following order. Once you get through these, you can start picking and choosing depending on interest.

I dare to post my interpretation on this picture.
I have used LR and took about 10 minutes.
The picture suffers from two problems: there is a round spot at the right and another light spot on the left, caused perhaps by the use of a filter or un-proper use of the lens-shade or even total absence of it.
