Loch Lomond

As well as doing moody things with the early morning mist in this thread, the sun did shine (occasionally) when I spent my weekend at Loch Lomond.

And whilst Sharon was getting wonderful skies in this image, I was spending time waiting for a good sky to form itself over the loch and the hills that surround it like a bowl.

I think this shows the majesty that is Loch Lomond. I slowed down the shutter just a bit in order to smooth out the water just a bit.

I'd like to hear what you think of my effort to show off scene.

Great sky! I also like your treatment of the loch; you left just enough texture in it to provide interest yet you smoothed it enough to give it a reasonably creamy look, allowing the texture of the sky to dominate the image.

Starting at the bottom as I enter the picture I skip over the water as me my eye is drawn to the dark hills on the bottom third, then the image just gets better with the larger hills and then the great sky.

Donald,As a novice at photography I think your photos are top class,keep posting Loch Lomond shots and Balloch/Loch Lomond will be booming with tourists,a big thanks from Mr and Mrs Pryce for the picture their son who was in another boat saw you and was wondering "whit is he up to"......

Wow! You've really captured the grandeur of the scene wonderfully, and that sky is simply magnificent! I think this is an image that definitely works better in B&W to colour - it gives it a much more dramatic effect.

I would love to see this printed large scale, but before you do that, if you do that, there is one thing that I feel needs some attention. There is a thin white halo effect on the horizon, along the mountain tops, which has presumably come from over-zealous sharpening. I do not normally see this in your images Donald, but I feel it is something that needs fixing here.

Otherwise another masterpiece. Great stuff!

Thank you for your comments folks and thank you to the guys who spotted the halos.

I went back to my GIMP .xcf file and established it was caused by my content-sharpening along the edge of the mountains (sloppy work). I have now taken that off the master copy, a version of which I'll be posting up on my own website.
