James, these guys can be fun to shoot and oddly difficult at the same time. I have only just last week shot my first pelicans and I noticed the feathers reflect light differently than other birds I have shot.
I think you have done fairly well given the semi harsh light. It is a good capture but A shot from below or even more level may have been a bit more dynamic and given possibly a little better background though this one works ok.

I wish we had Pelicans around here, I had to travel 200 miles to catch my first one.
