A few Pelicans from my vacation
I took these the first morning as I arrived in Longbeach. I drove into town and straight out onto the beach. It was about 10:30 am and the mist was quite heavy in spots so it was a wait and pick your moment type thing. Meanwhile I was driving up and down the beach and found a dead seal and baby whale....well I think it is a whale. While I spoke to someone on the phone while reporting it, the man thought porpuse. I don't think so due to the shape and color but what do I know. lol
Here the Pelicans....C&C always welcome

Paul,
what a fantastic set of shots.
I don't know why I want to pick a favorite but I do; top prize goes too #3.
These pictures are all very good and feel I shoud say more, but am in awe and don't know how to put into word what I think.

Paul - these shots are beautiful. I like all of them, but #3 is my favorite.
Could you post some details?

I agree with what the other guys have said.
A good lesson in getting the basics correct - Get to know how to use your equipment well, get it in focus and get the exposure right. You are then more than halfway towards high quality images like this.

Re: A few Pelicans from my vacation
Thank you Bobo, and you are right about viewing them larger....it does help.
Thank you John, #3 is my favorite as well.
Cliff. thank you, these were shot at Iso 400 F8-F9 @ 1/1250-1/1600sec between 370mm-400mm
Thank you Donald, the mist was really driving me nuts...I was happy to get these few breaks of clean light. Most times it was fairly foggy. So I guess a little patience is something I would add to your list.

Quite some shots Paul! I like #2. It shows well the difference between the adults and the immatures. Any more?

All of them are great shots. I really appreciate #2 because so often group shots of birds don't work. This one, though, really does. It's like they formed a little semi-circle for you. The two on the ends resting, the next two in grooming and the one up front posing. The sandpiper is an added bonus.

Thank you Sharon, Louise and Terri.
Louise, I may have a couple more but they'll have to wait til I get back to the house.

Nice set Paul. The only thing I would change if mine would be to clone out the seagull in the second image. The third is my favorite.

Re: A few Pelicans from my vacation
What an interesting bunch Paul. The seagull in #1 has such details you can see the water dripping off her feet. #2 looks like he spotted you! #3 shows well the flying technique, the wing span (quite impressive)and the position of the feet. So I would suggest a little work on #2 for exposure and shapening and you only have to give it a title like: Humm, aren't I pretty!
