Re: Green Heron
Nice image of what tends to be a difficult bird to find much less get close to around these parts. The 1.4 would surley come in handy on occasion. Nicely spotted and captured.

Re: Green Heron
Well done, nice detail and a good pose with a hint of the habitat the bird was found in. It looks a bit like our Greenbacked Heron. Was this taken from a hide?, as I know from experience how tricky and elusive the smaller herons can be.

Re: Green Heron
Clive, from the photos I have seen of the Greenbacked Heron, our Green heron is very similar. I photographed this bird from my SUV which served as a hide of sorts. They are easily spooked most of the time. They are unique in being one of the few birds that use tools by dropping bits of food in the water to attract small fish.

Re: Green Heron
Great capture Rollin... I did not know that about the Little Green Heron using tools, very interesting.

Re: Green Heron
I'm envious. Just yesterday I crawled up on my belly in the weeds and got a shot of one, unfortunately also in the weeds, so the foreground and background were too messy for prime time. At that point it saw me and flew off with a squawk. So I stood up, and then three more of them that I had not seen flew off squawking, too.

Re: Green Heron
Arlen as you know, bird photography takes a great many photos before getting the one or two that is satisfactory. These birds are wary and often not in the open, so it just takes patience. Good luck.

Re: Green Heron
I was lucky enough to get this last year of a green heron in action. I didn't know about them using tools either.
