Great Blue Heron

This one has a rather peculiar behaviour - he likes to look at the dragonflies perched around him or whizzing past. Even took a dive at one and instead plopped head first into the water. Pretty hilarious.

5. Just before he went "plop". Getting the dragon in the shot would have been asking for too much.


6. All wet and foolish looking after the head first fall into the pond. I dont think they swim so he is standing in that chest high water.

Hey Bobo, nice series of a Great Blue. Good capture getting the dragonfly and the bird. I agree that I do not think Great Blues swim even though it appears it is in the last image.

Thanks Joe. I have shots of the action that took place between 5 and 6. Only the back is showing and he seemed to be struggling a bit to find a foothold. Then his head popped up as in 6. Very soon after that he took off for safer ground. Will post the flight ones later.
