Bales in the Pyrenees

Still working through what was taken on holiday/vacation in France in July.

Would welcome comment and criticism on all or any aspect: Conversion, Composition, Crop, etc.

Hi Donald,

I much prefer the second, leaving alone the dimness of the straight unprocessed shot, the green grass the bales are on just doesn't look right. In mono, I can imagine it being the straw yellow colour I think it should be!

Crop-wise (if you'll pardon the awful pun) I think I'd take a bit more off the sky, but still leaving a bit of blue touching the left hand edge. Other than that, the composition is fine, again an improvement on the original.

Conevrsion looks fine to me.

I have to agree with Dave. The second shot is a cracker. Excellent B&W conversion although I personally would have been tempted to dodge the hills and the mid-ground trees a little. I am not convinced it is a big issue with the B&W though.

Judging by the scenery it was probably a bus mans holiday for you

im afraid my first instinct was that the second was worse. While the hills came out better, the hay bales seem to me to have become a much less dominant feature, almost lost amoungst the grass.

but thats just me

This is quite a good composition, but I would have taken some off the bottom as the horizon is halfway. The first is very under-exposed. If you look at the histogram it is entirely on the left side. What settings were the camera on?

Was reading the recent posts on 'shooting to the right' earlier today and, 'yes, guilty m'lud'. Lesson learnt, I hope!
