    Although I have a Nikon DSLR, my Canon PowerShot serves me very well and in some situations, better then the DSLR so I wouldn't be too concerned about your choice - it is a good camera in that price range.

    In a way, as it is a done deal, perhaps the best thing to do is to use it and see how you like it. Looking forward to seeing some of your postings!

    I always say use what you have and learn from that then in time you will move on when you feel ready. Enjoy your new hobby and have fun with it.

    Hi Frederico,

    Welcome to the CiC forums from me.

    In a word; YES

    I wasn't familiar with the model and had a quick at a review;
    I see it is quite compact, which is a good thing as you're more likely to carry it around and use it
    It has the P Av Tv and M modes
    Various metering options
    Various AF and even MF focus options

    So yes, it will be a reasonable starting point to learn camera control and photography basics, much better than an Auto only model.

    Cheers,
