Re: I don't normally do 'wildlife' but....
Perhaps you should more often, sharon. The eagle is fantastic, with beautiful lighting and background. The tiger is exposed well, but eye contact makes for a more powerful image. Sometimes making a noise to get their attention is all that is needed. ( and sometimes you don't want their attention )

Re: I don't normally do 'wildlife' but....
Hi Sharon,
#1 IMO is spot on. This is a pin sharp picture, which is well composed; I keep looking at the birds eye, I feel he's in the room with me Well done.
#2 looks a little soft on my screen, but that could just be somthing at my end. Very nice composition, I guess these shots were taken at a zoo; I don't remember you saying you were off on an exotic photo shot
Overall very nice and thanks for sharing.
king regards
John.

Re: I don't normally do 'wildlife' but....
Thanks guys...Safari Park and we had a Guide Dog with us so we didn't want too much attention from anything that might consider him 'snack worthy'...there was an interesting moment with the eagle.
John..I applied a little Orton effect to the Tiger so the softness is intentional. Whether it is wise or not, well all I can say is it seemed to suit the subject and the light. Maybe I just can't help being 'arty'..as I said, am not used to shooting wildlife.

Re: I don't normally do 'wildlife' but....
Looks better to me, Sharon.
I usually find that you can go a bit soft with wildlife but you need to have the head, particularly eyes, reasonably sharp. That sometimes gives the effect of actually having greater depth; such as making the subject seem longer.

Re: I don't normally do 'wildlife' but....
Thanks Geoff. The Orton effect appealed because it does nice things to fur but as you say, not in this case.

Re: I don't normally do 'wildlife' but....
Sharon,
I'm sure you must know by now, I am one of many on this site that think your 'arty' style is second to none. I have sat here on many occasions in awe at the quality of your work, so perhaps your magic touch with ‘Mr Tiger’ is the correct, I just thought his face, if nothing else should be pin sharp; but then I lack the skill and foresight you have, so am probably wrong.
Anyhow, I must stop babbling. I think the adjusted picture is better and look forward; as always, of seeing more of your work.

Re: I don't normally do 'wildlife' but....
Thank you John, you are most kind and it does me no harm at all to learn what benefits from a little 'artiference' and what doesn't.
I think you are totally correct in this instance and really appreciate for your advice.

I thought you didn't have any long glass?
Gorgeous images, especially the eagle. You should shoot more wildlife!

Thanks Mike and Joe. I am rather pleased with the eagle.
It was taken with my Canon 55-250 Mike, nothing fancy!

Well, this is indeed new ground.
Agree with what others have said. Re the tiger, I don't think it's the animal on which the Orton effect doesn't fully work. For me it's that darker area at the right hand side, including the leaves.
