    The Vermilion Lakes Banff

Here are a couple of shots I took on our recent visit to Banff in Alberta Canada. The first shot is Mt Rundle from the First Vermilion Lake taken late evening and the second is a shot from the Third Vermilion Lake taken at sunrise. This area is rich in opportunities for a landscape photographer but time is required to get suitable conditions. I was a bit lucky with the light on these.

    Comments welcome

    Hey Dave,

They are both great shots, looks like a lovely place to see. Fantastic clarity to them both, had me looking for a fave button

    Cheers

I've been to the Banff area twice for a week each time and don't even remember learning of these lakes, much less visit them. Thanks for sharing your very nice images.

In the second one, you might try increasing the saturation in the green tones just a bit (without overdoing it) just to see if that adds a bit of realistic pop. I would probably get rid of the moon, as it is so small and devoid of detail that it looks like a foreign object, such as the round clipping of a piece of paper that is left when you punch holes in it for insertion into a 3-ring binder. (I hate it when I accidentally spill those things all over the floor. )

I agree with Mike in that the green color needs to show up a little better. In the top image, I suspect you did some post processing to bring out the blues and the clouds and in doing so, removed a bit of the yellow and green from the trees, especially on the mountain. I could be very, wrong. In the bottom image, you might give some thought to lightening the shadows a bit and bring up the green. Still, what beautiful scenery. Banff is a magical place.

I lived in Calgary for 55 years and visited these mountain areas many times. I never get tired of seeing them. Thanks for sharing.

    Impressive work, Dave.

What would the second one be like of you cloned out the moon?

    Thanks everybody for your comments.

Mike these lakes are just out of town to the west and are accessed via a minor road which is parallel to and close to the main highway. Apart from the scenery. there were quite a few deer in the area.

Mike and Ken I see what you mean about the green. I'll have a little play with bumping up the green a little with say Colour Balance or also maybe adjust the White Balance. It's hard to remember what the colours were actually like. The only colour enhancement I did to either image was a small increase in colour saturation across the whole image - no special treatment for the sky in no 1.

Mike and Donald I agree with you about the moon. It does nothing for the second image really.

Andrew I would like to visit this area many more times but alas that's unlikely to happen !

Thanks Paul. Couldn't believe my luck to get the water so still and the light so good for #1 after a few days of questionable weather.
