This is a busy shot but it really works for me. Pin sharp and intriguing. Nice one.

Jolee, this is a very nice shot an it certainly suits the bw conversion. The only gripe is the close cropping at the top of the image. I wasn't sure about the border at first view but it actually works really well for this image.

Well spotted, unfortunately the woman staring into space does tend to distract a bit.

It is a good idea to always carry a camera. I have one on my Blackberry, but I don't get it out as often as I should, fearing disatisfaction with the quality. Daft, as the result is nothing!

I thought quite the opposite. The two women are not communicating at all - the woman is staring into space as the other woman is on the phone, while the two girls are happily interacting.

It looks like a shopping mall (shiny floor). You are normally not allowed to take shots in malls, so watch out.

I've been 'watching out 'for a long time Rob.I think the law is quite distinctive between taking photographs in public and private areas unless specifically requested not to do so,but thanks for your warning.(a life without risk is'nt worth living).I'm sure the arguement about the legality of street photography has been done to death and I shan't be adding to it but I'll continue doing it until someone breaks my jaw.

You are quite OK provided you are in a public place or thoroughfare, but shopping malls are normally private, and they can, and do, ask you not to photograph. And this is the Home Office circular that has just been sent to all Chief Constables in the UK regards terrorist suspects and photography. It specifically states that police-officers can NOT delete images. http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/about-u...2009/012-2009/

I like your shot very much. The image quality good be a bit better, but it captures the scene really well. That woman looking into space makes it, I think. Boredom!

The framing leaves a lot to be desired but the sudden appearance of dappled light meant a quick shot.

Here's one from Bryce Canyon, UT, USA. Used circ polarizer to darken the sky and converted to B&W using CS3. I think I overdid the red filter in the process but would like to get your comments and suggestions for improvement.

Hi Roger,

I can see why you combined the two, but to me, in mono, there's just too much similarity in the structures of the rocks and clouds. I think it would work better in colour.

Do my eyes detect a vertical stretching of the clouds?

The other give-away, that admittedly I had to look hard for to confirm, but my subconcious was telling me that something wasn't quite right; is that the sun angle differs between clouds and rocks.

Hi Arwyn,

I know you're not into PP much (yet ), but this is potentially a shot worth some time spent to fix a few things;
straighten it, clone out the distracting rope, recover the highlight on the horse's shoulder. The last may not be possible from a jpg

Beyond that, if there were anymore image to the left (not sure if you have cropped this or not), it would be worth including a bit more.

Excellent Dave. You got me on two counts, actually three counts. The original sky was perfectly clear....boring, so I took a sky shot I had made a couple of days before. I did have to stretch the clouds to fill in the bottom left. I knew about that problem. However I had not caught the discrepancy in the direction of the light or the fact that the cloud pattern was competing with those of the rocks.
That'll teach me to be more careful
