Cropping images
When cropping an image for print is it better to crop as a 4 x 6 or as an 8 x 10 when you don't know what size the client will be printing?

Re: Cropping images
I would suggest that you try to find out your clients requirements first as they are very different formats ... alternatively you supply the photo as taken [ DSLR 3:2 ? ] and let the client crop... I don't see anybody can give you an answer except the client.

Yes, leave it as shot and full size until you receive specific instructions.
And, unless instructed otherwise, if I made a crop, I would crop to a size ratio not specific inches. For example 3 x 2 or 5 x 4 ratio at full size. You can always crop downwards when required.
Some purposes require non standard crops. For example a square crop. In fact, standard sizes simply refer to popular frame sizes.
Also, of course, always crop and resize a copy - never the original.
