Very nice. I do find the bits of feathers that are overhanging her right eye a bit distracting though

I agree with Helen- and if I were to continue to edit this photo- I would try to take out the yellow from the corner of the left eye, and even the pinkinsh blue color underneath- to equalize the skin.... Also, I really don't like the shadow that is on the right side- maybe there is a way to reduce the darkness in post process? Or next time pay attention to the shadows and try to fill them in w/ reflector of some sort?? No clue, just opinions/observations.

Thanks guys Now that you point out the feathers I agree, didn't notice at first, as for the shadows, I did try, the problem was that it was only me and the model in a DIY studio with only a stand for the flash so it was very difficult holding a reflector. As to the pp I tried a couple of things and will try to do what you pointed out as well.

Would the self timer (if that option is avail) help?

I thought of that but timing became a problem and getting the right mood in the eyes and I still had the problem of not knowing exactly where I was reflecting the flash light, because it was just a speedlight and has no modeling lamp it was all a lot of guess work.

Such beautiful eyes --and the white feathers complement them in a wonderful way! I agree about the shadow under the right eye --I'd probably like to see a big more of the bridge of her nose on that side as well. The feather hanging over that eye doesn't bother me --it seems to add balance without distracting from the vivid quality of her eyes. Really, really cool composition. It wouldn't work with a different model.

I'm always totally jealous of beautiful colored eyes! LOL

Thanks Gretchen She really does have the most interesting eyes, they tend to change color depending on mood and what she wears

    Hi Tobias,
I like this picture just as you have posted. But if you feel the shadow is a problem a bit of PP could help.
Here's a quick try, I'm sure you could make a better effort if you felt the need.
    Thanks for sharing.

Thanks John Not quite sure which one I like more now that I see an edited version, but I am still rather happy with my results

In studio work, a remote control (wired or wireless) is a very welcome tool.
