I did indeed shoot it in Sri Lanka. It is quite a common bird over there, but that makes it nonetheless beautiful. I have some shots where I was very close to it and the detail is superb, however the background is 'busier' than in this shot. Pulse I liked the composition better here. I will try to do something with the other images and post soon.

I see you shot with a D90 and 70-300mm lens. I'm looking to buy this lens for my D90 how do you find working with it?

@Clive - the 70-300mm VR lens is a real bargain IMO. It is small and light, compared with the f/2.8 version, which I'd love as you can use it with a TC as well, unlike my version. I think with wildlife photography you're always going to want more reach. But that lens is much larger and heavier. I wanted to put up a 100% crop of another shot of this bird that I made with it to show you the detail and sharpness that you can get with it. The pic in this thread doesn't really do it justice. But as you can see, I took this shot at 300mm at a shutter speed of 1/125, handheld,which is quite slow for that focal length. I do not claim to have the steadiest hands in the world, so it just goes to show how well the VR works on it too. If you have the light, then I think it's a great lens for the money. I doubt you'd be disappointed with it.

I'll try to get a pic up soon to show you better the sharpness, it's a bit late now and I've got a lot on tomorrow. Perhaps this weekend!
