And you should be pleased. It's a great capture. I like the angle fo the branch, the turn of the head and the DOF. I've never seen this type of bird before. Thanks for sharing it.
Absolutely beautiful image Tommy. I am jealous. I noticed in another post of yours that you were in Sri Lanka...is that where you shot this bird?
I'm not seeing the image (4:35pm, Sept 5th - UK time)
Very pretty, I love his red eyes!!!
I can at 17.10 in the UK.
Very nice image
Oh, it's back. And indeed it was worth waiting for.
Thanks guys, yeah there was a strange thing happening yesterday. My post was appearing ahead of other later posts on the forum, even though no one had replied. Gremlins in the system perhaps![]()
I did indeed shoot it in Sri Lanka. It is quite a common bird over there, but that makes it nonetheless beautiful. I have some shots where I was very close to it and the detail is superb, however the background is 'busier' than in this shot. Pulse I liked the composition better here. I will try to do something with the other images and post soon.
Cheers.
A great image - everything is just right with it. Well done.
Now go make a large print and hang it on your wall.
Hi Tommy, very good image and echo all the comments above.
I see you shot with a D90 and 70-300mm lens. I'm looking to buy this lens for my D90 how do you find working with it?
Super shot, great color, detail and composition.
Thanks Bobo, Clive and Victor!
@Clive - the 70-300mm VR lens is a real bargain IMO. It is small and light, compared with the f/2.8 version, which I'd love as you can use it with a TC as well, unlike my version. I think with wildlife photography you're always going to want more reach. But that lens is much larger and heavier. I wanted to put up a 100% crop of another shot of this bird that I made with it to show you the detail and sharpness that you can get with it. The pic in this thread doesn't really do it justice. But as you can see, I took this shot at 300mm at a shutter speed of 1/125, handheld, which is quite slow for that focal length. I do not claim to have the steadiest hands in the world, so it just goes to show how well the VR works on it too. If you have the light, then I think it's a great lens for the money. I doubt you'd be disappointed with it.
I'll try to get a pic up soon to show you better the sharpness, it's a bit late now and I've got a lot on tomorrow. Perhaps this weekend!
