The birds are leaving

Summer ones anyway. Then of course there are those that will start coming down from the far north for the winter.

Though it would be "normal" to crop #1 and #2 so that the birds are in the left of the shot, these have been cropped deliberately with more space behind the birds to convey a "going away" feel. Does this work?

Yes it does. Wonderful thinking Bobo and equally good execution of the idea. Up to your normal standard.

In terms of migrating birds, I now one of, I'm sure, many thousands who are tracking, on Google Earth, the journey of 'Blue 44' the osprey chick born at the Loch of the Lowes reserve close to us. He left the loch on Sunday morning and courtesy of the tracking device fitted to him at 6 weeks old, his journey is being plotted on Google Earth as he, hopefully, makes it all the way to Africa. I didn't realise that only 50% of chicks make it through their first year.

There are an awful lot of hazards in his way between here and Africa, but given that I watched the webcam on the nest as he emerged from the egg, I've now got to stick with his journey.

I think your idea works especially in #2 & #3. I also love the changing of the leaves that add that color to #2. And, well, what's not to love about the action caught in #3? Great shot!

Ilike the positioning of your subject to convey departure. Great work Bobo. Oh yea I hope you dont mind that technique being duplicated.

Great captures B. Nicely conveys the departure concept. Glad you held back on cropping. Too many people over crop and come a cropper ( groan!) because they lose the over all perspective of what caught their eye in the first place by focussing in too tightly in pp work up. This of course is only my opinion.
