    Nikon 300mm

    Hi guys, pretty new to here and dslr, im looking for a 300 mm lens but not got a huge budget, i see that a nikon i think it was 55 300 was around 290 gbp, is this a good lens as i want it at more the 300 range?

    You have the 70-300mm VR - the non VR version is a lot cheaper but not worth touching really. 55-200mm is the lens I think you're referring to.

    The afs vr is around 400 now, and quite a good lens i believe, there is a cheaper sigma 300mm for about 100 gbp, but you get what you pay for

    Hi Tricky, what camera is the lens for?

    I have the Nikon D3100 with a 1.5 crop sensor so the 55-300mm lens performs as an 82.5-450mm Full Frame Equivalent lens. This is an f4.5-f5.6 VR lens that I have used for about 20 months now with no problems.

    Yes, the D5100 is a DX format, same as my D3100 and the lens is the same one I use so it will work just fine.

    I have the 70-300mm VR and I really like it. It's relatively light and I find the VR works really well on it. Provided you don't have to crop too much with it then you can get really sharp images. Well worth the money IMO!
