Waterbuck Colour or B&W

It was early morning in the Moremi Game Reserve and I was having a cup of coffee watching the sun rise. It was so still and quiet. From our campsite we overlooked an open vlei that was used regularly by game as they moved to and fro from the river to the trees. I was half-heartedly playing with my Sony trying to do justice to the scene when a mother and juvenile Waterbuck came into view to complete the picture.
I have struggled for ages as whether I should post these images as I didn’t know which one I preferred best but personally it’s the B&W. To me the B&W just feels right and from the outset I always saw it as a conversion.

With wildlife I prefer color (but the pink tones work in this one)..., did you happen to get any closer shots of the animals without the dead trees?

The colours add a real warmth to the photograph and is my preference by a fair margin. If it were a close up of the Waterbucks I maybe less certain.

I agree that the colour adds to the photo as it provides warmth and a better feeling of the location. I think a closer shot of the Waterbuck and the dead tree would work well in B&W but that's just a personal preference.

Hi Mavourneen, in this instance I didn't get any closer shots, as originally I was looking at a scenic shot and the animals happenend to come into picture.

Colour!
The way the sun is catching the leaves on the tree in the foreground on the left is beautiful----and totally lost in the B/W.

I have to agree with the rest here Clive. The color version works much better for me. The light is nice throughout the scene and really brings the dead tree out nicely.
