Rain from a blue sky - that's the Highland and Islands for you
Nice shot, particularly like the tones and textures you've brought out. I have a real hankering to photograph old boats like these as Philip Plisson is a real inspiration of mine and he does this sort of shot beautifully. Just need to find out where they are now.
I have been here, but on a better day than you had. There a few more boats here if I remember correctly, and I spent over an hour taking different images. With the weather you have here in this picture, you have done very well. I like the lighting on the right hand boat, and also the space to the right. Very nice colouring in the beach showing a lovely variance between the shingle and the old seaweed. This gives a feel for the location.
Sharon, great atmosphere! I can smell the seeweed and the fresh air! More?
I can't imagine "better" light for this scene. The light that you harvested in this one is mesmerizing. Your hard work required to repeatedly return to the scene paid off handsomely!
The one thing (the only thing) that I would consider changing is to tone down the bright white portion of the object (is it a float?) located in the metal framework of the foreground boat. It's inconsistent and a little unattractively so with the tonal range of the rest of the image.
Nice one Sharon I really like this,
I was about to suggest raising the greys a little to reveal more foreground/shadow detail when I remembered that I often don't shoot this kind of scene because the 'untidiness' of the seaweed distracts me - which you have avoided.
Now the only minor suggestion I can come up with is to clone out/tone down the small straight horizontal thing (shell) just to the right of centre foreground.
Lowering the key is something I should practice more.
Nice One, I like it, beautiful atmosphere,
Best Wishes, Pat
Atmospheric, moody, contemplative. I'm sure a seafaring man would have many a tale to tell.

I'm a sucker for this photo's color palette. Nice composition. I agree with Mike (I think it was Mike) that the whiteness of the floatation device seems out-of-place. All the other colors are muted.

Great artistry Sharon, I love it. The light works so well. It looks like an oil painting to me ( a very good one !)
Dave
Love it, good work !

Nothing more to add by way of C&C, other than to say that I love it! Thanks for posting
Thank you to each and every one of you for your considered comments and I am glad that you agree the shot would have lost a great deal in better weather ( made the continual drenchings worthwhile! ).
Mike...I take your point about the buoy and may tone it down a jot.
Dave...at first when I read your post I thought 'what shell?' but having had it pointed out to me I can see it all to clearly and it has to go.. thanks for that.
Donald, the state of my mind is often in question.
lovely shot sharon, i love this kind of photograph, im very much into the whole urban decay type thing, nature reclaiming etc.
i would def as said tone down the buoy, but in another way it shows its endurance against the elements, hopefully were going up to fort william soon, so a trip to mull will also be on the cards.its got a real cold damp feel to this.
Thanks Mark.
I hope you get the chance to get to Mull and maybe even Skye. The tourist invasion is over for the year and the real character of the islands is returning with the cold weather.
Very nice; I wished I could do as good as this:

Tried to have a go but yours is simply perfect Sharon, and now you've seen it I'll hide it in a link.

Thanks Nicola...I think the quality of light on Mull is quite special.
