Water Proof Camera

By my handle you might guess I use my camera on the boat. No, it hasn't gotten wet yet, though it is a constant concern. Getting up close and personal at a recent Lightning and Laser race yielded some good shots and no damage to the camera. The next camera I get will at least be water sealed.

Initially I was a bit surprised they let you get that close, as you are 'nicely' upwind of the dinghies in some of them.
Reading the blog cleared that up. Some of the more fanatical participants might otherwise get a mite upset with an
extra obstacle taking their wind (remembering from when I was on the water)

(For the un-initiated: that big yellow blob (English term: ??) in the last one is an essential part of the boat, if he forgets to lower it in the
next few metres he can probably forget the race as well...)

Actually, the centerboard has just been pulled up for the downwind leg. As for getting in the race course, yes, I was kind of in the way. I positioned myself so that I was just out of the upwind leg for the pin and inside the reach to the second pin. When the started the race, they called a course that was once around the triangle then up and back. It was the back of the up and back where I was in the course. All the guys cleared me, though I nearly got clipped by a boom once. I know a lot of the racers, so they didn't mind that I was there and they did get some good shots of themselves.

I know why he pulled up the centerboard (didn't know the English term, I did my sailing in the Netherlands mostly), but I also know what happens when he leaves it up
till after the buoy (the boat will turn, just continue straight on). Personally, I never managed to master the laser (too light when the wind got interesting).

Nice stuff in the rest of the series as well (47/48 for instance, good expression; and 246-252 are rather spectacular as well, especially for those involved)

Some really good ones there; I think a little more fill in #3 and it will be perfect. Don't think you can get a waterproof camera but you can get a case.

Revi, from what I understand, in the Netherlands the water is never deep enough to put the board down!

but only if you are a 4m drawing participant in the 'Vendée Globe' :P

Most lakes do have about 1.5 m in them, although there are a few with an average depth well under a metre, these
make great skating areas in winter (don't try to walk across though, you'd drown, both in summer and in winter).
