Probably just the photographers caddie selecting the best camera for the shot. I think he would be allowed up to 14 cameras before being disqualified.

I have seen this remarkable image before. However, I suspect that this was a setup with several sports photographers donating their gear for the image.
It does show one important thing for shooting field sports, use of kneepads. I like to shoot field sports. Oh well, before several knee surgeries and old age I once liked
to shoot from a low level and the knee pads really helped.
Here is a neat YouTube video on shooting field sports. In this case it is American football but, it is applicable for any field sports in which you shoot from the sidelines.
