Autumn in the Hood

The fall colors seemed to have reached their peak, so I spent about an hour yesterday strolling through the neighborhood on a glorious (but very windy) morning. Not a lot of art here, just a celebration of the season. Any thoughts/suggestions appreciated

We don't get much autumn tints where I live. The leaves get mouldy and blown off the trees by the wind.

The only slight thing I would change is in the bottom left corner of #5 where there are a few leaves encroaching. Easy to clone them out.

These are great! I've been trying to get some pics of the trees in my area but I'm struggling with how much of the tree to include. I'm admiring your compositions which don't include the tree tops and the photo still looks complete and is an enjoyable image.

I guess you can't go wrong when its the fall season, just capture what you can.

Thanks all, glad you liked them. I apppear to have gotten lucky with the timing-as I write this it's very windy and raining for all it's worth- could be the end of the leaf season peak.

Donald, thanks. #3 was my favorite as well.

Geoff, good idea. Will definitely do that, I neglected to notice those.

Debbie, I have long struggled with the same question, but just kept studying other images of trees that I admired and finally realized it's generally not necessary to include the entire tree. Including a tree edge anywhere, along with the structural essence (trunk, limb shapes, leaf type and general shape) of the particular tree, along with obtaining enough isolation of your target tree, seem to be enough. Our brains seem to fill in the rest quite adequately.

Beautiful images, Kevin. What a great neighborhood. Here in San Antonio I haven't seen any trees changing color yet. They probably won't for another month or two.

All of them are nice but the third one is stunning. I wonder if I could convince you to try cropping it to eliminate the bulk of the blue sky in the top right corner. Then select the remaining spots of blue showing through the leaves and replace that color with the color of the leaves.

Mike, that had not occurred to me. If you have the time (with this or any of my images) please feel free to have a go at that. I post at a fairly large size so there's plenty of pixels to work with . I learn a lot from others' edits

The two changes took me less than two minutes to make. After cropping just a small amount off the top and right side, I selected the remaining blue and replaced it with the darker color of the leaves. For me, eliminating the blue sky, which is a cold color, allows the remaining colors, which are warm, to have so much more impact.

Kevin, Sorry to hear the peak season may be over because I'd love to see more of your photos of Fall. These are beautiful. I agree with James. Great composition. I like your placement of the various trunks within the frames. And, like Debbie, I find it interesting that it works so well without the entire tree. I've been paying attention to that also when photographing Aspens, but have to admit that my tendency is to try to get it all in somehow.
