1st post using my 1st ever Nikon D3000 DSLR !

    Hi guys !

Its been a long time I came here, but I remember this site very well, cos I learnt a lot about photography coming here...

At that time, I didn't have my own cam...

And, at last, got my new Nikon D3000, along with the kit lens...

Here goes my 1st post of my 1st pics using my 1st ever DSLR !!!

These are pics from my trip to the near by lake, in the evening ...

Regarding post processing, i'm a total newbie, so didn't really do much other than cropping and playing a little bit using Lightroom !

My 1st lesson was to keep an eye on ISO.I didn't notice it , & was at 800, so it means the images are not as detailed...

Few more pics, for you all,

A millipede that made the mistake of coming into my home , I liked the patterns its rings create when it curls up into a ball...

Very friendly though, doesn't bite or do any harm ..

So picked it up, was very odd to press the shutter with my left index finger, as the insect was in my right hand !!!

Another shot , of the curled beauty ... !

    Pink beauty !
Just walked out of my home , to see this rose, just enjoying the rain.. it was dark , so used the flash !

Looking forward to see the reaction for my first ever post !

Thanks in advance, for your patience !!!

some very nice images, youve clearly fallen back into it very comfortably. Would be nice if the images were a little larger, its hard to see any detail with them that small

Hi Andy: Nice shots! I'm not a bug lover, but the millipede is very well behaved and photogenic.

As a fellow new D3000 owner, I'm wondering if you used a tripod for the landscapes. If not let me know how things work out in that light at ISO 100.

I just got the same camera and I think the same lens (18 - 55mm f3.5/5.6). I know I'd have trouble getting anything that sharp in those lighting conditions at ISO one or two hundred without a tripod.
Is it just me or did the high ISO 800 help you out.

Thnx a lot for all your replies...

I too realised that the pics are small . To be frank, i didn't know about it much, but now, i see it !

So will post d larger pics again.. for all of you..

Scout, I didn't keep an eye on the iso, but it was at 800, all over...

I dialled in exp. comp. for the 1st shot.. -1.3. I think, that's why the cam set an iso of 800. and then stayed that way.. cos, again, i forgot to change it back to zero...
1st lesson for me, after doing any adjustments, i have to come back to original settings, or it stays that way..

Nice wish Andy, we have it all over the place in this season.. !
I'm also not a bug lover really, but this one was very nice, and they are very friendly also...!!

    Hi Davee,

These show a lot of promise; I really like the compositions on all the landscapes.

It would be nice to see some millipede shots 'on the hoof' so to speak

    Regards,

Meaning walking, apologies, that is probably an old English colloquialism unheard of these days ( showing my age now too).

"colloquialism" opps, sorry, I may just have done it again, no seriously, I had to look that one up to spell it

An English slang phrase meaning when it is walking, in this context; rather than curled up.

By the way, I hope you kept the D3000 dry when taking the rose shots!

    Cheers,

I must remember that phrase for my own pen portrait

Dave means taking Shanks's pony. I think "on the hoof" must be deep south vernacular. Anyway to business. I really like number 3 but when you get used to the PP i think the overall composition will benefit from cropping/cloning out the foliage in the right of the frame. No 8 is clean and sharp but for me it is a specimen record. A really tight crop to irradicate the white background would make an intriguing image. Apart from maybe the millepede all need a touch more sharpening to my eye and I think you need to dive into the PP and experiment with levels and curves. Good luck with the new camera you are making a promising start.
