    Chinese Lantern Plant

I took this photo a couple of years ago while on vacation in Italy. After viewing the original digital image I found the green leaves and background took away from the orange lantern flower. At the same time I started working with imaging software and decided to make this my first project. Please let me know what you think about the end result.

Hello and, first of all, let me welcome you to CiC. I don't think I got the chance previously.

You've maybe seen that most of us tend to use our real names on here. It makes communication more friendly and CiC is that sort of site. Did you know you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

Selective colourisation is one of those approaches that tends to have people pretty firmly in one camp (Like it) or the other (Can't stand it). A bit like the US Presidential election, there are a few undecideds in their in the middle.

Given that you say this is your first project with post-processing software, the it is right that you should experiment and explore that art of the possible. One other option to experiment and explore with this one, is what the effect might be if you were to partially de-saturate the green leaves and background, so that their colour, though still in there, did not compete with the lantern flower.

    Hi Woton,

I'm becoming a fan of this type of picture. I have no idea how to achieve it, but I applaud your effort.

Soozie - If you mean selective colourisation/colorization, then there are lots of ways of getting there. As a GIMP user, this is the one that taught me. Irrespective of the software used, it will give you the principles behind the process.
