Re: Salamander for lunch anyone?
Great looks, Paul. For the first two, how far away were you?

Re: Salamander for lunch anyone?
Lon, thanks. For the first I was about 60 yrds and the rest were right around 10 yards maybe a couple more for the second shot.

Re: Salamander for lunch anyone?
Lucky you
Here, the herons don't let you approach to less than 30-40 m in general :/

Wow! THAT is some capture - both yours and by the bird.

Re: Salamander for lunch anyone?
Great shots, Paul. That salamander looks like a pretty big meal for that bird - and then he went for dessert!

Re: Salamander for lunch anyone?
Thanks Revi, it's all in the approach and what the bird is doing at the time. Keep trying and you will get closer.
Bobo, it surprised me...I never knew we had Salamanders that big here in WA.
Thanks Terri, actually they regularly eat much bigger meals, the largest I know of was an adult Pied Billed Grebe.

Re: Salamander for lunch anyone?
Thanks Miguel. 70-400 actually. The frog is in the link I'll post below. These still are not as good as I wanted but sometimes you just have to deal with the messy backgrounds. I wish they could all be as clean as the catfish image of mine.[well maybe not all, I do like to see some habitat] You can find that one in my birds gallery in my signature link.
The frog catch... There are better places to get warm
