    Hi from Scotland!

    Hi guys

    My name's Sam from Ayrshire Scotland, and I'm looking to get into 'photography'. I'm a 19 year old Class 1 lorry driver (don't ask haha!) and I recently bought my Canon 600D. I only have a kit lense at the moment and I'm trying to utilize that as much as I can at the moment before I move onto bigger and better lenses. I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have. Meanwhile, I'd like to show you some photographs I've taken since getting my camera around 2-3 weeks ago.

    Hi from Scotland!

    Hi from Scotland!

    These ones are in lower quality as they're from my Facebook page. I would upload the originals but since upgrading to Windows 8 I forgot to back up the originals.

    I'd sincerely like to apologise in advance if I have missed any limits regarding the resolution or max size of pictures allowed in threads.

    Hi Sam,

    Welcome to the CiC forums from me and 'fear not' about the image sizes, they're fine - exactly what I'd recommend in fact.

    This (Meet the Members) forum isn't the best place for image to attract critique though, but it is the right place to say "hello".

    I will give one bit of feedback;
    I think (for only 2-3 weeks) you demonstrate an "above average" command of your new camera, but on the snake shots, while you obviously (correctly/wisely) used the centre focus point on the eye, this has resulted in it being dead centre of the composition, which usually isn't ideal. Close up shots generally benefit from a crop (in PP) to place something important (like the eye) nearer to a third (rule of thirds).

    If you imagine cropping the left hand 15%-20% and lower 10%-15% off the first three shots, I think you'll find a better result ensues.

    Look forward to seeing more from you in future,

    Thanks for your comments guys.

    The snake is mine, he's a captive bred Boa Constrictor, born in 2011 and one of 4 in my collection.
