Fluorescing Corals

Ok - this is another one of those cases where this is just far too cool to relegate to the depths of my P52 thread...

You may have seen my previous post with a fluorescing jumping spider. Well, when I bought that equipment, I also bought the gear I needed to take fluorescent photography during scuba dives (actually the scuba stuff was the original catalyst for researching this kind of photography).

On this recent trip to Turks and Caicos, I finally got the chance to try this out. And I must say, the results are nothing short of amazing.

Night diving is the best - all the fun stuff comes out for night dives! As for filters, both strobes get a special fluorescence excitation filter that produces the right wavelength of light to cause the most common fluorescence, and then the lens needs a Yellow #12 filter to correct the bluish light the excitation filters produce.
