Dafen (copyright infringement village)

A while back I visited Dafen Art Village, in Shenzen. It is basically a small town filled with art studios, framing shops and galleries, where you can get pretty much any artwork you want copied or your own idea done "in the style of".

This women is the best human statue I have seen. I was in Dafen for several hours and never saw her move a muscle...


all the alleyways between the shops/galleries are filled with artists working...

It's easy to sniff with disdain at "copyists" until one stops and reflects on how transcendent of their art they must be to move effortlessly from one style and technique to another. Looks like a fascinating place

Very true. The great masters almost all learned by working in a studio and copying their masters work. These guys are following in that tradition, and many are producing interesting original stuff as well.
