    Re: Through the perspex

I must say these mini competitions really change the way I see my photos. I rarely can guess right if my picture will get votes or not, and once again, i was wrong. This is a really good way of getting feedback that is truly honest But then, sometimes i find that pictures i vote don't fare so well either, so perhaps I appreciate a bit different aspects in photography than most people.

Besides some obvious aspects, you like or dislike a photo depending on your personal taste. I like your photo, and got my vote , and others you posted, for the atmosphere you give. But it is my personal opinion.

    Thanks Kris

Well, many of my photos miss the interesting subject, (which i often wish i had in the picture, someone sitting or walking) why the atmosphere often pretty much is all that there is to in the photo.

Well not all your photo miss an interesting subject. The photo you posted for example in the mini competition 1354 has one in it, the tree. To be honest I would have framed it differently. The tree is exactly in the middle. IMHO a little on the left would create more contrast between the tree in the foreground and the street and other trees in the background, improving the result. A a rule of thumb divide the frame in three parts and put your main subject on one of the two lines separating the three portions, the so called 2/3 law. On some camera you can have a grid in the viewfinder.

In your Lone rider it is the opposite. The main subject, the rider, is too on the rhs, and it is partially cropped.
Also a larger field pushing the rider a little away from you would have helped.

    Cheers

    Re: Through the perspex

Thanks for the thoughts Andrea! On the tree photo i tried to go for symmetry, why the exact middle. I also thought afterwards that it could have been nicer with better composition. The main reason for the shot was the falling snow, which for some reason didn't want to pose in the mid air for a very long time Stupid gravity. On the bike shoot, i made the composition for the background only, and i was thinking about the shot when suddenly from behind comes this driver, and then i liked the shot with the bike best, so there's the story behind the compositions. I wish i would have waited a bit longer for the bike to move to a better position. Though i'm still pleased with the pic.

And thanks again for taking interest in my photos

    Re: Through the perspex

    I understand.
The solution is simple, just take more than one shot of the same subject with different compositions.

    Cheers
