Amateur, CompSci and University of Cambridge student (also, hi!)
Well isn't this just a wonderful site!
It's amazing to see how active this forum is!
My name's Amar - I'm very much an amateur with only a year or so of practical experience but many more years of reading about photography, optics and image processing (you'll see why below :P), approximating what I could with compacts, cameraphones, Photoshop and code and looking longingly at DSLRs with the hope that I might one day get around to a useful purchase.
In time I finally got that DSLR and nowadays I have rather many more images and not time to process and filter them - with any luck I'll end up asking for critique of photos from Cambridge and its events eventually, though (whether that's going to take me until postgrad/PhD I don't yet know... ).
Amusingly, though I'm currently an undergraduate student of Computer Science (image processing, yay!) at the University of Cambridge, I stumbled across this site on a completely University-unrelated search - upon seeing the title and origin I knew that I had to sign up!
I suppose time will tell if I have anything useful or interesting to contribute but in the meanwhile I'm sure I'll at the least lurk in the shadows and borrow and steal knowledge from the forum's collective.
