Re: At what price to you give up loyalty to your local dealer?
I moved to Vancouver from Hong Kong 25 years ago.
I bought my 20D from camera shop in Vancouver(this shop automatically beat the lowest price in town), \then I stayed there for long.\
I bought my 7D, 24-70, 70-200 from the same shop. Again, they will check competitor ( of course amongst Vancouver) price so that I get the lowest in town.
Reason to buy in that shop: I got a honest sales ( who is also a photgrapher) to offer me best solution. When I ask for 1D series for my daughter's sport, he understand my purpose and advised me to come down to 7D. and save the money for lens.
In lens, he always offer Sigma while I told him I got nothing with my 20D and Sigma lens after few years.
Then I insist to play expensive on lens. and go for L series lens.
So, you can see a local store sales can be helpful in a positive way
When I travel back to Hong Kong, I buy accesories, flash light, tripod, hardware, Q strap, Grey card, lens cleaning kit, LCD light, lens caps, ball head..... those thing never need service or adjustment. Then I save tax while don't need to worry about after service.\\
Then I started to shop on the web on: 7D battery, camera books, flash reflector...... and soon will be enloop rechargable battery from United State.
there are numerous ways to buy while we can fully utilize the benefit of each channel.
In town store offer service and adivse. ( you need time to find one)
Asia offer cheaper hardware = from China and Taiwan
On line offer cheaper price with quality. ( of course from reputable store like B&Hill, ...)
I never go e-bay or 2nd hand channel for camera or lens.
Enjoy.

It’s just another inappropriate commercial plug, Manfred usually catches these before most people notice them.

Roy / Dan - there is a icon with a little triangle with an exclamation mark below each post. Click on that and fill in a quick description of the issue. That will send a report out to the moderators to investigate and if necessary take action on a post that is inappropriate.
