We were having a beer out on a friend's patio and this tiny guy (less then 1") dropped onto the serving table next to us. Had the camera with me so quickly set up and grabbed a couple of shots.

Slightly different approach from what I would normally do and went b/w on the 2nd on a whim.

What do you think?

The fine detail and colouring of some moths can be astounding.

I've taken plenty of moth photos like the first one, and they always seem lacking to me.

However, that B&W - especially with the reflection - is fabulous. I hope you don't mind, but I'll probably steal that idea the next time I have a nice most to work with!

I love the B&W

my experience of shooting bugs is that most shots that work are the front, side and top view, either 1:1 ratio or shooting the whole insect.

I agree, the B&W is very nice, Bobo. The reflection, detail and you conversion all really have worked well.

I think he is kind of lost, in the b&w version. Would also like to see the second shot in color, with a bit of the forground cropped off.

Thanks Andre, Steve. Your wish is my command. Colour version. I will see about cropping the specks of dust in the foreground but that means losing the reflection. Will do that and see how it looks first.

Honestly I'm feelin the black and white photo more. It has an almost 50's horror movie look to it, except it's much sharper. I would hate to find one of these in my bed

Thanks Jason. At the displayed size, I would too but not to worry, it is pretty tiny, less then an inch long.

On the subject of cropping - the new camera is amazing for its resolution. Very little if any loss of detail even at this very large crop.

I would hate to say it but even though it's tiny I would still scream like a child if i woke up with that in my bed. What camera/ lens are you using? I didn't even realize this was a crop.
