I saw a report about this on CNN tonight and these photos are far better than anything CNN showed. I told my wife that I would just love to go to Venice when it's flooded like this (we've been there twice when it was bone dry). She firmly let me know that it would have to be a solo trip without her.

I've only been while it's dry too. We usually travel in August, while most of my family who live in Venice are on holidays from work.

I've been told it's pretty cool to see (if you don't live there!), but as a tourist, it causes some headaches, as quite a few of the shops will close.

So, I'd have to side with your wife on that one Mike! Sorry!

Wasn't like that when we visited in Oct 2007 and Oct 2010, glad it wasn't!

I don't blame her, who wants to take all those shoes to Venice only to have to leave them at the hotel.

it is a beautiful city indeed.

A real shame about the flooding as it is going to cause substantial damage to already fragile foundations.
