Our latest rescues...

Gracie is one of American Maltese Rescue's latest rescue dogs. She is Maltese and another breed. Her face looks like a long haired dachshund but, she doesn't have the elongated body of a doxie. Gracie was a stray and was shaved down to her skin by the shelter because of mats. That is why she is wearing the jacket. Luckily they left some hair on her ears...





We think that Bella might be a Maltese and Havanese mix. She is a young girl, less than 10-months old and is very friendly. She came to us last night as a foster and is already comfortable in our home. Bella is an owner surrender...

Thank you. Since many adoptions here in the USA are facilitated through the Internet sites such as www.petfinder.com and through the web pages of many animal shelters, it is imperative that the images of rescue dogs on these sites show off the dogs to the best advantage. This is especially true since many shelters are so overcrowded that they euthanize the animals in their care very early. Getting adoptive "furever" homes is literally a matter of life and death for these animals...

I just wanted to add, that as of Nov. 17, 2012, both of these girls have been adpted into wonderful and loving furever homes. In fact, Gracie is now living in a 6,000 square foot (~557 square meter) mansion and little Bella is living in a beach house on the Pacific Ocean...

Chris, we don't know what Gracie is, except that she is a lovely and loving small dog. It might become more apparent what breed combination she might be, if her coat becomes longer. We are leaning towards the possibility that Gracie has some Dachshund or possibly Poodle blood running through her veins. You never know...

There is always DNA testing to determine a dogs heritage. However, the DNA test costs about $70 (U.S. Dollars) and we can find other uses for that money (it will almost pay for a spay or neuter). We had an adoptive family run a DNA on one of our rescue puppies, just out of curiosity and that pup had several breeds in her background...

We know that Gracie's new "furever" family has adopted a wonderful dog who will be their devoted companion for a long while.

It is wonderful how many affluent people who could easily afford to pay for a dog from a breeder have decided to adopt a recue dog. The Chairman of the Petco Board of Directors wanted a Doodle but would only adopt a rescue doodle. His family decided that Sophie, a chocolate Labradoodle, whom we were fostering (we also work with Doodle Rescue Collective, Inc.) was the right dog for them...



My final thought is to ask people who want a dog to either adopt a rescue dog or buy from a reputable breeder. Don't support the horrible conditions at puppy mills by buying from pet stores at the local mall or shopping center...

Here here! I'm going to jump on the rescue bandwagon for just a minute. I volunteer for a GSP (German Shorthaired Pointer) Rescue. There's a breed specific rescue for practically every dog breed out there.
..and now back to our regularly scheduled program of adorable little white dogs and brown doodles
