As Manfred noted, a lens like that is an 'investment' and, oddly enough, I think it is now worth more than the camera I bought it to use upon (a Nikon D700) - go figure :-O
I did need to put a lot of thought toward buying that lens; and I am VERY happy that I did decide to purchase it. Foe me, as someone who loves to do landscape photography, it is undeniably the best lens I have ever owned.
But, you know, it isn't like I started to do landscape photography after buying that lens. Here are a few images I have captured over the years using 35mm film and, for these as well as for the digital landscapes I now do, the best piece of equipment after the camera and the lens is definitely the tripod (and a remote release of some sort).
