I had been playing around with >2x magnification by reversing my 20/3.5 on my D7000 and taking a peek at the cores of flowers. Here is what I found (this sort of magnification is new to me).

1. Echinacea


2. Unknown


These were shot with ambient lighting. Any suggestions for the future?

You could try focus stacking for the second one.

OTOH the shallow DoF of the first one is fantastic.
