    Spiky Drop

    Hi,

This is another one of a recent theme I have been doing, water drops and cactus. Any C&C welcome.

    Cheers

Jason, I like the colours in this and the clarity of the droplet but wonder if a tighter crop may help it.

As for water drops a few years ago I found that an old syringe was an excellent tool for placing them exactly where required under control.

    Hi Jason,

A good capture. Maybe the bokeh top right is a little distracting.

OoooH!! That really does work well Jason. For me I would just crop to take out the part droplet on the right as I feel it detracts from the rest of it.

Nice shot. I agree with others here that a tighter crop would make it ever better, but well done

Anne, you nailed it. What a beautiful photo. I want to learn how to do that.

It looks like you have developed a compelling image format Jason!

It might be worthwhile capitalizing on this technique to develop pictures within pictures. That is, you are getting a really clear sharp image within the reflection in the drop of water.

What if you could use the drop of water in a fascinating setting like this to frame a reflected image, say jewelry or a portrait?

Thank you all once again for the kind words, I am really happy that you like it.

    - that is something that I will try Frank, I agree that it looks good when it works. I have seen various examples of what you are talking about and they look pretty good, it is just figuring out how to do it that is going to take some trail and error.

    Cheers

I thought I would attach this black and white conversion of another drop photo that I think almost captures an image within the drop, it is the patio roof and the sun. Cheers.

M,mmmm, Jason. Not sure about the B & W. I rather liked to reddish fringe at the top of the original image so if I had cropped it some of that would have been left in, just the part water drop left out.

    The cropped image is excellent.

I love the bizarre non-spherical shape of the drop caused by the hydrophobic nature of the cactus surface.
