Study in Texture...My take on it

Thanks to Andrew76 for posting his image "Study of Texture". Here is what I came up with last night. No gold ring in this one however. I do not have the software to do selective coloring. I tried it with my ring in B&W but the tones just kinda ran together, so I shot it without the ring.

Jon, your version is different in that it does not have as much texture as Andrew's but it does have a lot of sinew. The tendons and muscle of your hand are very apparent. It's almost like a muscular abstract. I don't know if this is because the lighting is less and thus creating more shadows.

It was not my intent to do an exact copy of Andrews photo, mainly because this is my hand and not Andrews. Thanks for taking time to view and comment, that is much appreciated.

Jon, I like the inclusion of the ring in the second photo, but like the greater detail in the first. Don't take this as the final word on your efforts because this is coming from someone who would not be able to accomplish what you have.

Have you tried using the Gimp? I'm pretty sure you can do the selective coloring with it and it is free.

Sergio, I have not tried Gimp yet...maybe this weekend. This is going to be another work in progress for me...add it to my list. I think the ring helps distinguish the hand. I just need to keep playing with the whole process.

Hey Jon, looks great! I really like the lighting on yours! Much more moody than mine. I can't decide which one I like better, they really look totally different, I can't believe the ring makes that much of a difference.

I suspect your wife may like the one with the ring better?!

Andrew, I think you are correct. I don't wear my ring very often (its a work safety thing). I will continue to play with this idea. Thanks for the inspiration.

Jon, good for you for trying, at least you are learning. Might not be as good as Andrew's but asking him for guidance is what it is all about.
Just keep trying with different settings and lighting.
