A rather large boat

I have been debating with myself whether to post this on here or not as i am not sure it is of a quality good enough to do so..however, i won the debate and here it is,
I tried to give this a film grain type of look but not sure if that was a good thing or bad one so any c+c is more than welcome

There are no good or bad restrictions. If you are not sure about something, post and ask... pretty simple.

The pic - I like the processing, the way the colours clash with each other, the brooding sky etc. But on the other hand it is a shade too busy. Don't get me wrong - I think it will do well on the wall of their administration building or offices.

I too like the processing but feel that it is a bit busy. One thing that occurs to me is that the Pedestrians Only sign needs a little room to the right or cropping out altogether. Actually cropping it out altogether strengthens the clouds a little I think.

You specifically asked about the film grain, so I'll mention that I think it's either applied a bit too heavily in the clouds, that the sharpening is applied too heavily in that area, or both.

I get the sense that you wanted the image to be busy. If so, I think you did a nice job. Regardless of your intention, I have to disagree with the others in that the busy character of the photo works fine for me. I do wish there was more space to the right of the "Beware of Trains" sign. Consider cropping on the left to eliminate the left-hand post of the other sign. (I can't put my finger on why that makes the ship more prominent for me, but it does.)

I really like the warmth, tones, and textures of this image.

I am not sure about the graining effect, it would be interesting to see what it is like without it. I get the feeling that the ship is not going to stop and is coming straight for me, a most interesting view.

I may be stating the obvious, but that's exactly why I like the sign on the right side, as if it's not just the pedestrians that have to be aware of the trains; perhaps there should be a sign advising the ship captains of the same.

The graining make it James. The ship is almost background in the unprocessed image but dominant in the grainy one and the red sign on the right just balances the crossing sign on the left.
