    They are limited by lens dimensions, extension tubes when used, flash kit on the front of the lens when used and the centre of gravity of all this additional weight.

    But they work well if you take the time to set things so that the centre of gravity at mid travel of what you want is inline with the tripod mount and work even better if you make a spacer to support the lens barrel against the rail.
