New member from North Yorkshire

Hello, I stumbled across this site earlier today while looking for some photoshop guidance. I have been interested in photography for over 40 years, but achieved little more than snaps. Now my children have grown up and I have more time I decided I would try to improve my photographic skills. Over recent months I have bought a Canon 40D, a few lenses and a 430ex flash. I have just about got to grips with the speed /aperture priority and I'm having fun learning. In my work I use a computer all day so I am finding getting my head around Photoshop on an evening quiet a challenge.

I live 10 miles south of the city of York in the north of England. My interests, after my family, are my dogs and motor rallying.

I have a sister, also a (rarely posting) CiC member, some miles north, north west of York.

Is your rallying interest as a spectator or a participant (driver/navigator/mechanic)?

Brian - I know I already said hello in the main 'New Member? Introduce yourself here' thread, but I just saw this. That means, does it, you must be somewhere near the village of Escrick? I go down there fairly often as my partner's sister lives in the village. Lovely part of the world. Spent a day on a longboat on the Pocklington Canal in April 2011. It was glorious. Some of my images from that day are here.

Donald, I work in an office just a mile outside Escrick village on part of Escrick Estate. I live in Cliffe, a small village near Selby. I didn't realise the canal at Pocklington was in use ! Must get out more. I have had a look at your images o=f the canal. I like your B&W conversion.

Hello Dave,

Guess your sister is out towards Ripon / Richmond area. A nice part of the county.

Originally I navigated on road rallies back in the 70's before moving on to stage rallying. Marriage put pay to competing so I get out and spectate and take a few photos whenever possible. Given my age, it will be no surprise I prefer to watch historic motorsport.
