Nice capture Bryn
I see you shot this with the Panasonic G5 at 162mm (FFE 324mm, but probably cropped a bit too).
I see you have the usual UK problems, lack of light (iso 400, 1/60s and f/6.3)
The result here is as good as I can imagine I could achieve, so the PP is good too.
My only suggestion would be to cheat and add a false catchlight to the eye, or enhance the brightness that's there, but that needs to be done at pixel zoom level, or we'll possibly get a noisy eye, you only want to increase the brightness of the reflected daylight, not the whole eye.
Well done,
Thanks for your comments much appreciated,Think you have just about summed everything up correctly.

As Dave wrote, nice capture Bryn. A very appropriately named bird with a nut in it's beak. I remember them when I used to live in the snow and cold.
Very nice nuthatch, bryn. A wall hanger for shure. Made a few editing adjustments.................
Local contrast enhancement
Increased the exposure of the bird and decreased the exposure of the background
2 sharpening layers on the bird
dodged the eye
added some saturation
adjusted the slight red color cast
