I tend to do a lot of dog portraits... Here are two of my favorites from 2012. I have posted these on CiC before. I guess that's O.K.!





Additionally, I like this shot of a polo match at the San Diego Polo Club in Del Mar, CA (also posted before)



However, ask me tomorrow and I may have three other shots in mind...

I purposely went flat out at the beginning of the year, knowing that come April my world would change with the arrival of our first child. Since then, 80% of my shots have been family and baby photos and I'm not going to bore anyone with those on here!

#1 for me was this shot, mainly because of the effort required to get permission to shoot, not having the conditions I wanted for the shot I'd envisioned, but still coming away with something that I love.




#2 for me was one of those grab shots which looks as if it's been taken in a much more considered fashion. 2011 was the year I 'found the light' with environmental portraits, but 2012 was the year I learned how to find it and use it more effectively and quickly.




#3 for me was not necessarily one of my best, but one I love. I really enjoy wandering around when the weather's bearable and taking shots of daily life in town, and there are times when you just 'need' to take the shot when you come across a scene. Even though it looks posed, this guy merely held the position I saw him in with the help of a friend of his as a translator. Finding him two days later to give him a colour 8x10 print made both our days!

The year isn't over yet, so I reserve the right to make a change.

I chose the first two images because they commemorate a fantastic trip to Iceland in a style that is more creative than most of my travel photography, which is the largest type of photos in my collection. This is my first year of making black-and-white images and my first year of getting really serious about photographing glass, so my last selection represents both efforts in one image.

Even with a just a few of us having so far contributed, you get a real sense of the amazing quality of photography that gets posted up here on almost a daily basis. I hope more folks will post up their selections.
