My first go
With the daytime long exposure that is. Today I say a slight break in the cloud layer and have been eager to test out my new filter.
I had to drive around to find a location which I could get the clouds in moving in the right direction. I got close, though I am not overly pleased with the comp, it was a good first test.
The clouds were barely moving so I went extreme on time.
This was an 8min exposure

Re: My first go
Paul when I purchased my 200 mm the man who sold it to me gave me a neutral density filter with it , is that what I would need in order to try one of these timed shots with?

Re: My first go
Pretty good for a first try.
Taking out the bottom log might work better though.

Re: My first go
Yes James, however...the longer exposure that you want the stronger the filter needed. This was shot with a 10 stop filter from Lee.

Re: My first go
Thanks Bobo, this was really just me testing things out. Although I like it even less without the log.

Re: My first go
Paul this filter is a promaster variable nd . It turns from min to max and gets darker. Guess I just have to put it on and play with it to determine times needed huh?

Re: My first go
James, I don't know that filter but that is what you need. Some of those can work fairly nice. Some of them end up giving uneven exposures. Only way to know is to give it a go. If it is a 1-10 stop variable and works good at 8-10 stops you are in business. Good luck, I look forward to seeing some images.

Big Stopper Big Stopper Rah Rah Rah!
I picked on up about a year ago - they were almost impossible to come by then - are they still hard to get?
Nice job!

Re: My first go
Jaime, I have looked around for the last 6 months and nearly bought a different 10stop to fit the Lee holder because no one ever has one in stock. I finally went to my local shop 1.5 miles from my front door and placed an order for the Lee. They had not had them in some time and I was now 10th on the list. That was Thursday. You can imagine my surprise when they called me Friday morning saying it was in! lol They are again out of stock.
